August Egg Company of Hilmar is recalling 1,700,000 dozen brown cage-free and brown certified organic eggs for potential salmonella risk. The eggs were distributed over the last four months, some with sell by dates as late as June 19, according to the recall notice from the Food and Drug Administration.

Almost 2 million cartons of eggs across the United States have been pulled off shelves because of the threat of a salmonella outbreak. The recall, announced Friday by California-based manufacturer August Egg Co.

The salmonella outbreak is impacting millions of cartons of eggs sold at several popular retailers and grocery stores in nine states, including Illinois.
