Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres got his 2,000th career hit Monday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a sharp single off the glove of diving shortstop Geraldo Perdomo.

According to Padres broadcaster Mark Grant, as well as many fans, there's no debating the third base spot for the All-Star Game.

Four days from the All-Star break, Manny Machado still has not taken a game off this year. He has had a handful of “half-days” off. Thursday’s series finale will be one of those days as Machado will serve as the DH for the 6:40 p.

Manny Machado has 2,000 career hits. The Padres star accomplished that feat while batting for San Diego against Arizona Monday.

After lining a first-inning single for his 1,999th hit, he produced a 109 mph ground ball in the fourth to capture a piece of history.

Machado had lined a single at 111 mph into left field in the first inning for hit No. 1,999. He would get hit No. 2,001 with an eighth-inning home run in what ended up a 6-3 loss to the Diamondbacks in the opener of a four-game series at Petco Park.
