It has grown from 1.5 million in 2000, a 269% increase. Additionally, more than 400,000 multiracial Black people (8%) are foreign born as of 2023.

The percentage of eligible voters who are Black has risen slowly in the past two decades. In 2012, for example, Black voters represented 13.2% of all eligible voters.
